Jen + Trinity | Love in Banff

Photographer: Crista Lee Photography | Second Shooter: Luptia Olan | Venue: Buffalo Mountain Lodge | Dress: Frocks Modern

I must say that this summer has been amazing photographing so many inspirational couples getting married.  Maybe it is because of my own background with adventure  photography that I am attracting these hip, strong and worldly couples but what ever the reason is I can only say that I LOVE MY WORK and I ADORE my clients!

When Jen and Trinity asked me to photograph their wedding I left our consultation doing the ‘happy dance of joy’!  They planned their Banff wedding to commence at Two Jack Lake (one of my most Fave areas in the park), then they celebrated their reception at the stunning Buffalo Mountain Lodge!

Jen had told me that she and Trinity owned a VW camper van that she was going to use it as their Limo!  Imagine… how cool is that!  These two have adventured all over the world, on big Himalayan Treks, exotic Andean adventures  and to boot they departed within 48 hours of saying their vows to Thailand!!  I can not thank them enough for choosing me to photograph their wedding, biggest hugs from me and Luptia too!

Jen’s wild flower bouquet was unbelievably perfect for her fall wedding.

Shelly and Garth’s evening wedding at the Chateau Lake Louise

Wedding of Shelly and Garth | Photographer: Crista Lee Photography | Second shooter: Luptia Olan | Venue: Chateau Lake Louise

I had the pleasure this past fall to photograph the wedding of Shelly and Garth in Lake Louise.  This couple met overseas and have what most would consider to be a truly outstanding global love! Although they live and met in Asia the couple choose the, fairy-tail like venue, Chateau Lake Louise to share their vows. Garth’s family flew all the way to Calgary from New Zeland to be a part of the wedding day and Shelly’s family flew and drove in from all over western Canada!

In our four hours together we experienced mountain weather to its fullest with everything from heavy rain, to snow, no visibility of the mountains, to clear sky’s!  Lake Louise is so amazing!   Thank you Shelly + Garth for making us part of your celebration… it was wonderful.

Erica + Corey’s Fabulous Seaside Wedding

Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of flying back to Halifax to photograph one of my childhood closest friends get married!  Erica + Corey both went to the same high-school, had almost all the same friends yet somehow never met until two years ago… imagine in small town Nova Scotia!!!   Their love was like a gift waiting to unfold until university was complete and their careers well seasoned!

I loved the colours Erica choose for her fall wedding– earth tones. They blended in perfectly with the entire post vows portrait session  we did in their backyard, by the lake.  Everything about shooting in this location was fantastic, personal and gorgeous!

I must admit throughout this entire wedding my eyes filled with tears of happiness… these two share such a beautiful new love!  They were giggling and happy the entire day long.  In fact, I took over 1000 image the entire day there was not one of either of them that showed a moment of anything but sheer joy!

Thank-you Erica + Corey for asking me to be your photographer, not only so I could be by Erica’s side the entire day, but also for bring such love to each-other!  Who could wish more for their childhood “like” sister:)

Laurel + Jorg’s German style wedding in Banff.

Venue: The Rimrock Hotel | Photographer: Crista Lee Photography | Second shooter: Tessa Perkins Photography | Wedding Decor: Grimes Designs

Laurel, from Pincher Creek and Jorg from Germany, their love story began when they met while scuba diving in the exotic waters of Latin America.  Both with professional careers and living on different continents they couldn’t just couldn’t shake their affection for one another when they returned home.  So Laurel very courageously  moved to Germany, enrolled in an intensive German Language school and they decided to marry!

Laurel found my website from Germany on a Google search and enthusiastically called telling me she loved my more natural human interaction style… I was honored!

I must admit my eyes filled with tears when I first stepped out upon the Suite 9oo balcony and saw the chairs covered in white linen with beautiful turquoise sash, the harpsichordist and the view of the mountains .  It looked like a fairy tail to me.

After the ceremony was complete Laural and Jorg preformed a wedding tradition from Jorg’s region in Germany called the ‘Cutting of the Log”.  Together they saw away… symbolizing union and working as a team.  I love these cultural delights at weddings,  I thought it was such a beautiful touch!  Their entire crowd of guest laughed and cheered them on!

These glasses were hand painted by Laurels good friend!  What a special gift… some people are so crafty!

Laurel was hoping so much to see any wildlife during her wedding portrait session… not only did her wish come true but she had a full on audience of Big Horn Sheep!  AMAZING!

I loved Laurel and Jorg’s custom built wedding rings, inside they had engraved a hammer head shark!  You can see it at the top of the blog post!

Laurel has a very wonder Aunt Moria, who herself immigrated from Australia to marry a Canadian many  years ago.  So her Aunt presented Laurel and Jorg with two fun and sentimental gifts.   To  Laurel she gave her Grandfather’s John Deer farming jacket (very Canadian).  She then Gave Jorg two words of advise any foreigner in Canada  must learn– 1. To wear a ‘toque’.  2.  Know how to pronounce “Hockey”.  Check out below the coolest hat of the year!

Laurel’s other Aunt Lorraine Robbins,  made this incredible cake themed of the ocean where the bride and groom met!  Imagine each one of these shells were made with chocolate!  The Round cake was gluten free to boot!  Look out up-coming brides for more of Shelly’s cake, hopefully for next summer’s wedding!

Their first dance was the Vietnamese Waltz, adorable!
