Potraits of a Bow Valley Ballerina

This week is my real kick off week of summer portraits + weddings and what better way to bring on the rush than to have a few hours with a ballerina.  Watching her gracefully move was hypnotic– the powerful postures looked effortless… it made me want to be 17 again!

The Mount Steven’s Ballroom at the Banff Springs has a fantastic powder room.  Above Ashlee, the dancer, warms up in her ‘point shoes’.  I learned on Tuesday these shoes are only worn once your body has fully grow.  Wearing them as a younger teenager is not encouraged to prevent serious injuries.

As you can imagine Ashlee had many people watching her dance over the Springs terrace– Nothing seemed to phase her.   She giggled and said, ‘Oh no, I’m great” when I would ask her if she wanted to take a break.

One of Banff’s most treasured and popular viewpoints is from Mount Norquay.   With the wide open vista of Mount Rundel and the Vermillion Lakes it set the seen for Ashley to preform.   The big meadow was covered in little purple spring flowers and (although they are not in the photos) there was mountain sheep all around us:)

Banff Springs- Portraits of Children Playing

Yesterday, was a magical morning at the beautiful Banff Springs Spa.  Although it is mid May and flowers are blooming we had, what is hopefully, the last snowfall for this season!

The colder temps created very intriguing steam rising from the heated outdoor salt-water pool–  coupled with big snowflakes the scene was great for photo fun.

Canmore Portraits- a spring evening.

I had the pleasure of doing a portrait exchange with two wonderful photographers from the Bow Valley,  Julie Williams and Tessa Perkins last night.  Dispute the cool temperatures these girls went all out to have fun!  With Tessa’s Ralf Lauren hair and her youthful beauty and Julie being absolutely gorgeous I had a blast photographing them!

Plaza Catalunya

In the heart of one of the most romantic cities on earth, Barcelona, one finds the center park, Plaza Catalunya.  Here you see fountains, couples in love, statues of human figures and of course the palomas (pigeons).

I thought it would be a great way to end our 6 weeks in Spain and my children agreed!

As many three year old boys are, strong and full of energy, it was beautiful to watch my little guy show a sensitive side. He was entranced or memorized by the fact these birds were not running away! Moments, as such this, make all the tremendous efforts of traveling to Spain so worth it!
