Potraits of a Bow Valley Ballerina

This week is my real kick off week of summer portraits + weddings and what better way to bring on the rush than to have a few hours with a ballerina.  Watching her gracefully move was hypnotic– the powerful postures looked effortless… it made me want to be 17 again!

The Mount Steven’s Ballroom at the Banff Springs has a fantastic powder room.  Above Ashlee, the dancer, warms up in her ‘point shoes’.  I learned on Tuesday these shoes are only worn once your body has fully grow.  Wearing them as a younger teenager is not encouraged to prevent serious injuries.

As you can imagine Ashlee had many people watching her dance over the Springs terrace– Nothing seemed to phase her.   She giggled and said, ‘Oh no, I’m great” when I would ask her if she wanted to take a break.

One of Banff’s most treasured and popular viewpoints is from Mount Norquay.   With the wide open vista of Mount Rundel and the Vermillion Lakes it set the seen for Ashley to preform.   The big meadow was covered in little purple spring flowers and (although they are not in the photos) there was mountain sheep all around us:)
